About this site

JulienMorgan.com is the sole property of Julien Morgan, author. He manages this site alone, but to make this page look a bit serious, he’ll refer to himself as “we” in the following paragraphs. I’ve also included a few links if some of the stuff I’m talking about sounds like gobbledygook to you, as well as points to watch out for indicated by a ⚠️ symbol.

What data do we collect?

When someone leaves a comment on the blog, we collect the information that appears in the comment, as well as the visitor’s IP address and user agent (now you know everything). Why do we do this? Because the spam filter needs it to separate the wheat from the chaff. I personally couldn’t care less where you are or what browser you’re using, because I’ve got better things to do (like writing my next novel).

Furthermore, a hash of your e-mail address is also sent to the Gravatar service to allow your profile picture to appear if and only if you use this service.

⚠️ Note that if you upload an image in a comment, information can be integrated into the image in the form of metadata (EXIF). Again, I couldn’t care less, but remember that comments are public, and that anyone can visit my site—and therefore access data that may be of a personal nature, such as geolocation.

When purchasing in the bookshop, the data collected is that required to process your order, no more, no less. When you create an account, a password is automatically generated, which you can change at any time; we do not have access to your password, which is stored in a secure database managed by WordPress. If you lose or forget it, you can request a password reset using this link.

Who do we share your data with?

We don’t share it with anyone.

How long is it stored?

Comments:

For as long as they appear on the site.

Bookshop section:
  • Data related to an order with payment is anonymized after 6 months;
  • Data relating to cancelled orders or orders without payment are deleted after 7 days;
  • Data linked to inactive accounts is deleted after 2 years.
Forms:

No data other than the information requested in the forms on this website (e.g. name, email) is collected, and I only use this information to get back to you with the best answer. This data is kept—well, simply for the time it takes me to reply. I will then delete your message. (So much for the “we” thing.)

Reviewers list:

Julien’s policy regarding reviewers goes as follow:

  • If you’ve reviewed a title by Julien Morgan without requesting an ARC: you will not be added to Julien’s reviewers list or otherwise solicited for future releases. (But you may, of course, request it.)
  • If you’ve reviewed an ARC: you will be added to Julien’s reviewers list and solicited for future releases only upon consent. That can be done via the request form in the Press Room, in which case your personal data will a), comprise of the information requested in the form, and b) be stored for as long as you elect to be included in Julien’s reviewers list.

Cookies

Depending on how often you use WordPress, the site may ask you to authorize cookies before posting a comment. They’re only there for your convenience and expire after 12 months. Certain pages of the site may activate a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies (I guess that’s what it’s come to). This harmless cookie contains no personal data and expires when you close your browser.

JulienMorgan.com supports two languages—English and French—via the WordPress plugin Polylang. This plugin sets a cookie to determine your browser’s preferred language, and to redirect you to the site’s homepage in your last browsed language. It expires after 12 months. You can learn more about this specific cookie here.

⚠️ When interacting with embedded content (such as widgets), you’re treated as if you’ve visited the third-party website directly. These sites have their own cookie policy and are infinitely more likely than I am to collect information about your browsing habits and share it with (and possibly sell it to) third parties. If you click on a link to another website, you should read their privacy policy—just sayin’.
